Green Coffee UK
Scientists today described striking new proof that green, or unroasted, coffee can produce a substantial reduction in weight in a comparatively short period of time.
In the study, Joe Vinson's staff described how quite a few overweight or obese people who used several milligrams of ground green coffee beans each day lost about 10 percent of their weight.
"Based on our results, taking multiple products of green coffee extract per day - while consuming a low-fat, healthy diet and exercising regularly - seems to be a safe, effective, and cheap method to eliminate weight," said Vinson, who is with the University of Scranton.
The study involved 16 overweight or obese people aged 22-26 years who got capsules of the extract or capsules containing a placebo, a ineffective formula, for a total of 22 days. The subjects alternated between a low dose and a higher dose of the extract. The reduced dose consisted of 700mg of the espresso extract, and the high dose was 1,050mg. It had been a so-called "crossover" study in which people cycled through the placebo and the two doses, each for six months. Such studies have each individual act as their own "control," improving the chances of getting an accurate result for the experiment.
Most of the individuals were closely watched because of their overall diet (calories, food eaten, etc.) and exercise on the study period. Fats, carbohydrates, as well "their calories and protein intake didn't change throughout the study, nor did their exercise regime change," Vinson said.
Most individuals dropped an average of 7 pounds during the 22 months of the study. For a majority of people, this was approximately 16 percent of their body fat. Vinson noted that fat loss could have been notably faster, except that individuals received the placebo and the reduced amount of green coffee extract for area of the study period.
